DIRECTOR'S NOTES

MOVIE'S THEME

PROSEFHI: Greek School Prayer is a short narrative film that negotiates, using bullying in the background, the transition to the difficult phase of puberty and its revelations. Despite the fact that the movie concentrates in the relationship between the characters and due to the fact that it deals with a sensitive issue, scientific data concerning bullying were reviewed in order to write the Screenplay. The screenplay was then approved from the Greek Ministry of Education.

CASTING & LOCATION

A real school was chosen as the main filming location mainly because it was thought that this would portray the special feeling of this life-period with the greatest possible accuracy. For the same reason the actors chosen were amateurs, students of this age. The filming took place at the Gerakas high school of Arts, and most of the actors were students from this high school (adolescents between the ages of 14-16).

ART & TECHNICAL DETAILS

The camera was handheld most of the time during the filming. This was to capture the fluidity that characterizes adolescence and also to express the feeling of permanent threat, that is a strong feeling of children suffering bullying.

In order to capture the tension in the relationship of the main characters (Vassilis-Dimitris), camera is almost permantly at their Point Of View.

The film’s colours are matt, well lighted, with low contrast and low colour saturation. Live lighting was mainly used to achieve the wanted realism.

For every aspect mentioned above “Alexa” ARRI was considered to be the ideal choise.
